When I sat down with author and educator Nicole Wilson, it became clear, tea isn’t just a drink for her. It’s a way of life. On The Resilient Author Podcast, Nicole shared how her passion for tea evolved into The Tea Recipe Book and how writing it deepened her creativity and sense of connection.
Her book isn’t your typical cookbook. It’s a playful invitation to explore tea beyond the teacup. “It’s a collection of recipes that show how versatile tea can be—lattes, cookies, cocktails, even bubble tea,” she told me. “I wanted readers to experiment without feeling intimidated.”
The opportunity came unexpectedly when a publisher reached out and gave her just over a month to write the entire book. “It was intense,” she laughed. “But years of blogging prepared me for it.” Since 2008, Nicole has run Tea for Me Please, a blog dedicated to reviews, guides, and tea education. Treating each chapter like a blog post helped her meet the tight deadline without losing her voice.
Writing the book also pushed her to step outside her comfort zone—testing recipes she wouldn’t normally make—and reminded her that tea is about simplicity. “You don’t need fancy tools,” she said. “You can make great tea with what you already have.”
Beyond the recipes, the book opened new doors. It took her from behind the screen to teaching workshops, hosting events, and even traveling to Japan to study with the Global Japanese Tea Association. “It was a dream come true,” she said.
When life felt uncertain, especially after losing her job mid-project, tea became her grounding ritual. “The best cup of tea,” she smiled, “is the one you’re having.”
